When Jesus comes…

27th December 2015

The last service of the year! Here’s what was talked about:

  1. The different dimensions of God! (time-wise)
  2. The Rapture!

We start off with Titus 2:11-13,

11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,

Past: “the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men” — this talks about the first coming of Christ, when Jesus came down as a man, to save all of us by taking away all our sins!

Present: “teaching us that,  denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age,” — there’s a revelation here, it says the grace of God brings salvation and teaches us that we should live a righteous (right, just, holy– meaning “uncommon”) life! It’s not the pastors who teach you how you should and should not act, but Grace! So it’s important that what we teach is GRACE, that we let grace teach the person to be whatever he/she needs to be.

But this doesn’t at all mean that we shouldn’t discipline, just that we have to understand that true TRANSFORMATION and CHANGE comes from the Lord, it comes from/by/through His Grace.

Future: “looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,” — the appearing of Christ! Which is when Jesus comes back for us yay!

Philippians 3:20-21

20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.

And then it was taught that when Jesus comes back for us (the church), he won’t just come back and bring us up, but He will transform our lowly body to become as GLORIOUS as His!

Now if you read about the time after Jesus had risen from the garden tomb, he visits a few people, and these few include His disciples. (John 20) During these times, the disciples were indoors where their doors were locked! Jesus COULD WALK THROUGH WALLS. And if He says that He will give you a body that can WALK THROUGH WALLS, I think there’s a reason to be excited.

Imagine, a body that:

  1. never grew old
  2. never got fat
  3. never got bored
  4. never got tired

I don’t know about you, but that makes me 193487857019435923 times excited for this coming!

1 Corinthians 15:51-56

51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortalmust put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”[a]

55 “O Death, where is your sting?[b]
O Hades, where is your victory?”[c]

56 The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law.

BECOMING IMMORTAL. Now how’s that for a change? Having the perfect body for, well, FOREVER. And there’s not painful 3 day suffering (cough twilight cough) suffering just to get that perfect body! It happens “in the twinkling of an eye”. Have you seen someone’s eyes twinkle? it happens for 0.001 seconds and it’s gone. Just like that.

Similarly, just like that, you’ll get your perfect body! the one that cannot be tainted, corrupted. You can and will never die. I like verse 55, it almost has a mocking voice when it asks, “Death, where is your sting?” where is the pain? Where is the suffering you bring? “Hades, where is your victory?” It almost seems gloating. We’ve not just escaped death, we’ve defeated it and trampled it on our feet.

Because of Jesus, we are victorious! Aren’t you already excited that He’s coming back? Can’t wait for it to happen now eh?

But wait, who is this for? Am I included in this all exclusive group of people who will become immortal with Jesus?

The criteria, is not actually much.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

13 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.

15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.

The criteria is essentially, those who are

on this earth. Of course, you have to acknowledge and receive Jesus as your saviour, and become a Christian. That’s just it. isn’t it amazing? God literally lays everything down for us, just to nod and say, “yeah, I want to be saved” and He does the rest. It’s so simple. You don’t have to earn your perfect body, you don’t have to fight to gain this salvation. Everything is laid out for you to just reach out to take.

And, don’t worry about the dead (sleeping) , they will rise first, with Jesus!

Isn’t it just amazing?
